Start Early, Stress Less

Peak season has a way of arriving faster than you expect. One week you're doing winter maintenance, the next you're fully booked and running out of toilet roll. The parks that have the smoothest summers are the ones that start preparing in early spring — ticking off jobs when there's still time to fix problems without guests watching.

Grounds and Pitches

  • Mow and level pitches — fill in any ruts or holes left from the wet season, especially on grass touring pitches
  • Check hardstandings — repair cracked concrete, top up gravel, clear weeds from edges
  • Clear drainage — unblock ditches, check soakaways, make sure water runs away from pitches
  • Trim hedges and trees — cut back overhanging branches, clear sightlines at junctions and entrances
  • Repaint and repair — fences, gates, signs, and any structures that have weathered over winter
  • Check electric hook-ups — test every bollard, replace damaged sockets, ensure RCD protection is working

Facilities

  • Deep clean toilet and shower blocks — grout, seals, extraction fans, and drains all need attention after winter
  • Service boilers and water heaters — the last thing you want mid-July is no hot water
  • Stock up — toilet paper, soap, cleaning supplies, light bulbs, fuses. Buy in bulk now while you have storage space
  • Test water pressure — multiple caravans filling up at once can expose weak spots in your supply
  • Check fire safety equipment — extinguishers, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting all need to be in date

Signage and Wayfinding

Walk your site as if you've never been before. Is it obvious where reception is? Can guests find the dog walk, the recycling point, the water tap? Faded, missing, or confusing signs are one of the easiest things to fix — and one of the most common complaints in reviews.

Online Presence

  • Update your website — current prices, accurate pitch descriptions, fresh photos
  • Check your booking system — make sure availability is correct and the booking process works smoothly on mobile
  • Refresh your Google Business listing — update photos, opening hours, and respond to any unanswered reviews
  • Post on social media — share photos of the site looking its best, highlight any improvements you've made
  • Add an interactive map — let guests explore your layout before they arrive, building excitement and reducing arrival confusion

Staff and Processes

  • Recruit and train seasonal staff early — don't wait until the week before your first full booking
  • Update your welcome pack — site rules, Wi-Fi password, local information, emergency contacts, and your site map
  • Set up a maintenance log — give staff a simple way to report and track issues as they come in
  • Review your check-in process — can it handle a queue of six caravans arriving at 2pm on a Friday?
